Our Elders, Our Stories logoOur Elders,
Our Stories

Children. Elders. Stories that connect us.

The Elders in your community have stories to tell.
Important stories.

Carry their stories forward.
Together, turn them into a book.

Ask a question. Listen closely. Create a special book that celebrates their voices—one your family and community can treasure.

For teachers, schools, and communities. Start with one child and one storyteller.

Our Elders, Our Stories

Stories worth preserving.
A book worth keeping.

What was life like when you were my age? Who taught you something you still remember? One thoughtful question can open a door to memories a child has never heard.

Week by week, children collect the stories an Elder chooses to share. With the storyteller’s approval, they help prepare those stories for publication in a special book, adding their own drawings and reflections.

The journey

From an Elder’s story
to a published book.

01

Ask.

Choose a question from a journal or ask one of your own. Let curiosity lead.

02

Listen.

Record with permission. On a supported browser, words can appear as the Elder speaks.

03

Create.

Review the live transcript with the Elder. Copy the story into a journal and add a drawing or reflection.

04

Publish.

Help publish the Elder’s approved stories in a special book for family and future generations.

Hear it. See it. Keep it.

Watch their words
become a story.

With permission, record an Elder’s voice and use optional live transcription to see words as they speak. Review the text together, copy it into a journal, and help publish the approved stories in a special book.

A real audience. A meaningful purpose.

Their Elder’s stories.
Their own publishing project.

Children become story collectors and book creators. They practise asking, listening, reflecting, and editing while helping preserve an Elder’s experiences in a published book. The Elder is the storyteller; the child helps bring the book to life.

Our Elders, Our Stories.
An Our Story Warriors program.

Our Elders, Our Stories is part of the Our Story Warriors program from Tahltan Knowledge Keepers Publishing House. This project gives children a way to connect with Elders and carry the stories they choose to share into a family book.

The storyteller chooses

Some stories are
only for listening.

Elders choose what to share and approve their contributions. Community protocols guide what may be recorded, printed, or shared.

Clear permissions guide recording, review, and publication. A family book can remain private; publication does not require sharing stories publicly or selling them online.
